Adult Film Makers Adopt Blu-ray Format:
The HD or High Definition format for dvds arrived a couple of years ago and the adult film makers have slowly been releasing titles. Now the competing format, Blu-ray Disc, looks to be the competing format that has won out. The majority of the mainstream entertainment companies including Sony, Time Warner and Disney will be releasing all their high definition product on Blue-ray format. Up until now, HD discs have been manufactured on the same equipment that is used to produce the traditional dvd with some minor modifications. Blu-ray discs are produced with different types of equipment therefore creating a large capital expenditure. This will be built into the cost of each disc for the next few years. This will cause Blu-ray discs to be a little more costly.
This situation is similar to the VHS vs. Beta battle which VHS ultimately won thirty years ago. Because two competing formats cause confusion to the consumers, progress is stalled. Now that Blu-ray has the most support and seems to have won the battle, watch for the adult industry to begin releasing thousands of titles on the Blu-ray fomat. The adult manufactures would have preferred to stay with the original HD format. Their manufacturing cost would be less and they could keep prices down. The game is over now. Consumers will be purchasing Blu-ray players to play their mainstream discs and soon this will be the only type of player available for high definition viewing. The adult market is a very large piece of the pie when is comes to all dvd sales. 2008 adult disc sales are expected to reach four billion dollars which is significant market share. AT the end of 2007, Blue-ray has dominated high definition mainstream market share with 73 % of all high definition sales of dvds.
One of the down sides of high definition porn is many of the actors are nervous. The image quality is so good that they are uncomfortable being naked and exposing every little hair and blemish on their body. This is just going to force the actors to take better care of them selves and go to the gym more often. The end result will ultimately turn some adult films into art forms along with more competition between actors.
Ultimately this will turn out to be a bonanza for the entire adult industry. As consumers purchase their new players, they will have to start their porn collection all over again. They will also be curious to see how their favorite porn stars really look up close. One film maker is quoted as saying; "In the end, who doesn't want to see the most beautiful man or beautiful woman with the best image quality possible? It really brings it to life, it's fantastic," said Robby D, a director at adult-film maker Digital Playground. Most industry executives believe the public will happily spend the extra ten to fifteen dollars for the phenomenal improvement in image clarity.
